Tools for Success

Mindset

Training for a run can be just as much a mental challenge as a physical one. That is why it is important to be intentional and work to maintain an healthy mindset throughout the process. Things such as meditating and finding an accountability partner can be helpful for this.

Exercise Plans

In order to avoid injuries, it is important to condition your body before doing a 5k. Running is a repetitive movement and could result in the overuse of certain muscles. This is why it is also just as important to incorporate various exercises into your training. We’ve provided a 6 week beginners training plan above. Also, we encourage you to incorporate other exercise that you enjoy such as dancing or biking. Choosing physical activities that you love will also help you maintain a healthy mindset!

 Nutrition

Microtears are created in our muscles during exercise, that are then repaired to make us stronger. These tears can only be repaired if our muscles have the necessary nutrients available to do so. Having a protein rich snack such as apples and peanut butter is a great way to give your muscles what they need! It is also important to stay hydrated during the day with water and electrolyte drinks that can help replenish salt that your body loses through sweat.
